  1. Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd’s (Serba) board of directors has agreed in principle to appoint Ernst & Young Advisory Services Sdn Bhd as the independent reviewer to assess veracity and accuracy of the matters highlighted by the external auditors, KPMG PLT.

    Serba also said it was appointing Datuk Mohamed Ilyas Pakeer Mohamed, Masleena Zaid and Johan Mohamed Ishak to its board as independent and non-executive directors.

  2. Teleport, the logistics arm of AirAsia Group Bhd's airasia digital has tripled its revenue in 1Q21 vs 4Q20 thanks to e-commerce growth that has been accelerated by the pandemic. AirAsia Group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes further said the figures are back to pre-pandemic revenue and growing faster than before — without disclosing the revenue figure. Syok sendiri ke?

  3. Public Bank Bhd’s Covid-19-driven targeted loan repayment assistance programme has assisted over 160,000 customers who benefitted from the bank’s pandemic relief amounting to about RM40 billion. Currently, more than 90% of the bank’s customers are paying their monthly loan instalment according to managing director and CEO Tan Sri Tay Ah Lek (pictured below).

    One Top Glove ADR is equivalent to four Top Glove shares on Bursa Malaysia. Therefore, at US$7.50, it values Top Glove at RM7.70.

  1. Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) global assets surged to a new all-time high of USD9 tril. BlackRock, the largest asset manager in the world with USD8.7 tril in assets under management (AUM) saw its ETF business exceeding the USD3 tril milestone for the first time in May. BlackRock predicted that by 2025. The ETF industry’s assets will reach USD15 tril and accounts for just 3% of assets held in equity and bond markets globally. Behind BlackRock in the ETF space is Vanguard, with USD1.8 tril in ETF AUM followed by State Street Global Advisor, which passed the USD1 tril mark in April.

  2. Which country is the second-largest exporter of TV content after the US? It’s not South Korea, the answer is wrong. It’s Turkey, which comprises 25% of imported shows around the world. From a modest USD100,000 of export in 2008, it grew to USD500 mil in 2020 and is expected to top USD1 bil in global sales in 2023. A popular series, ‘Magnificent Century’ (trailer here, if you are keen), a story on the reign of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent has been viewed by 500 mil people around the world. - 1 of every 16 people in the world has watched this show. 

  3. Instacart, the USD39 bil on-demand grocery delivery platform recorded a revenue of USD1.5 bil in 2020, with its business boosted by the pandemic. What is less-understood about its business is that advertisements contributed 20% of its revenue of about USD300 mil, setting it apart from its competitors like DoorDash and other delivery platforms. Grocery delivery runs on thin or non-existent margin whilst  ads can fetch margins as high as 80%.

    Its CEO, Apoorva Mehta has said internally that the company’s goal is to break even as a delivery business and produce most of its profit from advertising. Brands are willing to pay Instacart to promote their products in its app and provide data and insights that ad giants Facebook and Google aren’t able to provide. Instacart’s ad revenue is expected to hit USD1 bil in 2022. Digital-ad spending on FMCG products is expected to jump by 16% to USD23 bil in the US this year.
