  1. Greatech Technology Bhd, an automation solutions provided recorded 77% jump y-o-y in net profit for 4Q2020 ended on 31 Dec 2020, raking in RM31.8 million.

    If you held Greatech since listing back in June 2019 at RM0.61 a share, you would have gained 1,980% at yesterday’s closing price of RM6.06 including the 1-for-1 bonus issue that happened in early Jan 2021.

    Period poverty is a real thing. The dilemma to choose between having food to eat or buying sanitary pads for period is a real situation for the poor. Lacking access to period products can lead to students missing school and also cause financial hardship. 

  3. Breakthrough Energy Ventures, the venture capital firm helmed by Bill Gates, has raised its second USD1 billion fund for climate tech. Jeff Bezos, Richard Branson and Michael Bloomberg amongst the investors in its first fund and also counts Jack Ma and Vinod Khosla as board members. 

    BEV is seeking to fund startups focusing in 2 areas:

    1. Direct-air capture: the process of pulling carbon dioxide out of the air to store permanently or recycled into products.

    2. Green hydrogen: the process of creating hydrogen through electrolysis using renewable energy. 

  4. One of the world’s largest crypto exchanges, Coinbase is now worth USD77 billion ahead of its highly anticipated direct listing. This is based on trades made in the secondary market through Nasdaq Private Market, where its shares hit USD303 per share - a significant increase from USD200 per share 3 weeks ago. This makes Coinbase more valuable than Intercontinental Exchange, the owner of New York Stock Exchange.

  5. Ford will be investing USD1 billion in an electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Cologne, Germany. It announced that by mid-2026, all of its passenger vehicle range in Europe would be ‘zero-emissions capable, all-electric or plug-in hybrid’ and by 2030, its offering will be ‘completely all-electric’.

  6. Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, Public Investment Fund (PIF) has pursued a new sector of investment - video games, an area long favoured by Crown Prince Mohd bin Salman (MBS). PIF acquired USD3.3 billion worth of stocks in 3 US video-game makers - Activision Blizzard (Call of Duty), Electronic Arts (FIFA) and Take-Two Interactive Solutions (Grand Theft Auto).
