  1. Carsome, Southeast Asia’s largest e-commerce platform used cars, has raised a USD30 million Series D round. Founded in Malaysia in 2015, Carsome today has a workforce of 1,000 people across Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore. It’s transacting an annualised 70,000 cars totalling USD600 million in value.

    Carsome’s Series D round is a lot bigger than the various recent IPOs on Bursa Malaysia.

  2. Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun says he does not have power to expedite the motion of no confidence against the prime minister but back in 2015, he had a different opinion - catch a glimpse of it here!

  3. Gamuda Bhd is aiming to secure RM10 billion of order book in 2021 deriving from Penang’s reclamation jobs and Australia’s rail projects.

  4. The government is considering and fine-tuning a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to probe Tabung Haji. Just over a year ago, the government had to bear RM10.3 billion losses in Tabung Haji’s rescue plan.

  5. Selangor’s water disruption will always be (N+1)th time - there will be another one around the corner after the current one. Water disruptions are annoying, especially if they are unscheduled. The latest water disruption affected 1,274 areas in Selangor and KL and is the 10th in Selangor for the year.

    Bursa Malaysia should consider following its counterpart to launch a water futures (see story below).

  1. Wall Street trades stocks, gold, oil and now water too. CME Group is launching a water futures to hedge against or bet on potential water scarcity. This futures will be tied to the USD1.1 billion California spot water market.

  2. Tesla is planning to capitalise on its stock rally by selling another USD5 billion worth of shares. This follows a similar move 3 months ago when Tesla sold USD5 billion stocks too. This seems like a wise and ‘cheap’ move to shore up its balance sheet and aggressively scale its manufacturing capabilities with 0.83% dilution at its current market cap of USD600 billion.

  3. European banking regulators are contemplating to extend the ban on bank’s dividend payment to shareholders to 2021, a measure that was implemented at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis to strengthen banks’ balance sheet.

  4. Leaked data shows that Sequoia Capital, the early investor in Apple, Google, Whatsapp etc has made at least 8x returns after fees on 3 funds since 2003.
